After working for other wineries in Australian and South Africa for 15 years, Geoff Merrill decided to establish his own operations. He found the beautiful, but run-down, Mount Hurtle Winery in 1985, which he restored and by 1988 Geoff had left Hardy’s to run his own winery.
Currently Geoff Merrill Wines has vineyards in some of Australia’s classic viticultural regions, Pimpala vineyard and the new Wickham Downs vineyard in the McLaren Vale and Graymoor in Coonawarra.
Geoff Merrill produces three tiers of wine namely: McLaren Vale Varietal Range; Premium Regional Selection and the Reserves.
Geoff Merrill’s Wines have been successful at Australian and International Wine Shows. Since 1980 Geoff Merrill Wines have won 23 Trophy’s, 125 Gold, 326 Silver and 999 Bronze medals. Their 2004 Mclaren Vale Reserve Shiraz won the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2005.
